focus group

With my main product completed and my ancillary product also i decided to do another focus group in a different format to a earlier one i planned.

The format of the focus group was as follows; i set up the animation onto a projector. I then handed out copies of a set of questions about the animation for the group to fill out. I set the animation to run and i then left the room to allow for the focus group to comment about matters which they would feel they couldn't say in person.

The results that i received  follow a rough trend, the major points that i received were to do the way the snake character looked within the animation (for which i have adjusted in my animation) and also there were a few comments about how things fit well within the target audience i selected

I have also did a focus group for the Live action TV trailer, the results and responses were that the text seemed to move across the screen too fast. However, after making the changes and showing the new version to the same group they agreed that it fit in with the other products and

Small video walkthrough

This video is a un-narrated walk-through of flash, this just shows the simple UI of flash and how my animation is formed within flash itself

Final Designs

These two images i have created in photoshop will be the front and back of the game cover. These covers have a similar theme in the sense of the pose and the use of lighting to show a character's alignment. There is also a uniform text section giving a hint to the characters relation to each other.

These game covers will also double up as material for the digital distribution page for the game as they each have factors of a advert. I have also included a picture of how the spine will look, this includes the title and the slight colour of the bottom of the front of the cover to link it to the 'good side of the character' this is to enforce the idea of playing the side of the 'good' character (the protagonist)

The magazine advert to the side of this text is the final version of the advert, it has the new metal texture and also includes the steam page offer as well as the age rating.

This is the final live action tv advert, the link between the two tv adverts is very apparent and clearly shown. The final product of this trailer fits in with my desires for the advert and also appeals to the target market's generic pleasures and their views to interesting adverts
This is the final animation tv advert, much like the live action advert the link is answered within this trailer to what the game actually is, it also appeals in the same ways as the live action trailer does to the audience, their views and their generic pleasures

Game Cover idea

The general idea for my game cover is to have 2 faces of 2 different game character on either side of the case. These covers(due to the game being a digital release) will also double up as the steam page advertisement banners. The Dark Knight trailers show the best example of what i want to achieve. The characters sharing a similar pose and theme but also the contrast between good and evil. This is what i want to use for my game cover ideas

The reason behind my choice is due to the target market's generic pleasures, the will understand the reference to the Dark Knight and understand the reasons and links between the characters shown.

There is a common convention of having themes run through advertising campaigns, even game related campaigns. The themes help to identify the products that relate to each other and also create a strong impression in the viewer's mind.

I'm meeting this convention within my products as i wish to create a theme between relating products, however due to the nature of the game cover and the steam page game covers the idea that the Dark Knight posters use i am translating to game covers

Voices, music and noises

With the animation I have been looking into getting some voice recordings for the characters and narrator.

There are a few aspects I want to look for in the voices for Nei Ei (the main character)
- voice has to sound kinda child like but still hinting to some age
- needs to be cute
- needs to have a likeable voice (might focus group this)

That is the small list of features that I want to see in Nei Ei's voice. The enemy's voice I want to have a deep male voice from which needs to be adaptable and also I need to edit the voice with simple filters to create a robotic sounding voice

The voice lines I want for Nei Ei are as follows;
"Air!"
"Water!"
"Fire!"
"Earth!"
"I bet that hurt"
"That looked painful"
"Don't call me cute"
"I am the unstoppable force"
"You're awful"

these lines should allow diversity within the animation. I want Nei Ei to sound similar to characters called Fizz - the tidal trickster and Teemo - the swift scout, Both characters from League of Legends (made by riot)

the enemy's voice lines are as follows;

"Target acquired"
"Engaging"
"Powering up"
"Enemy detected"
"Small hostile spotted"
"Taking damage"
"Shutting down"
"exploding"

I want this robotic sounding voice, similar to the voice of the Cyborgs from a old game called Tiberium sun (made by westwood studios)

The way i would record this is to use my camera, which has a sufficient audio recording microphone integrated within the camera and then detach the audio using sony vegas. I would then take the audio file into adobe sound-booth and then adjust and add effects to the sound clip to get the required.

This will fit into the conventional gameplay tv adverts as the finished game will have the sounds shown in the game tv advert. This addition of sound would make the gameplay advert seem more realistic and give the impression that i have made the game and recorded some footage of it for the advert

The way that i'd audition people would be to look at my friends that i feel have the abiltly to put on voices that would match the requirement i needed. I would ask them to record their voices saying a few lines and then decided from that point. i would have to use friends instead of professionals due to the expensive costs of voice acting

Edit:
After reviewing the placement for possible audio within the animation advert i have found that there isn't any possible placement

SWOT for 11th jan 11

Strength today has been organisation, the animation is taking a while to make due to the nature of flash. Though I have been able to get ideas across and such very quickly and efficiently.
Weakness is that flash has been messy the past few days to work in. The outcomes are that I have been able to get organised and settling in to the work ethic I had whilst in the holidays. The Targets are that I hope to have my ancillary products drafted and maybe one or two final versions completed

Metal tutorial

So looking into making the metal segments more metal I've come across this;

I will add some pictures/updates under this text here to show my efforts
Simple metal texture
This is the metal texture replacing the old magazine advert and i think i will use this for my magazine advert.

Swot for the 23rd

(delayed post)

Looking over the work that i have done i have made a few judgements on my progress. The actual making of the products is going well yet the written progression of how i have made certain prodcuts needs to be documented onto this blog.

I have found that I work far better within the sixth form than i do at home due to distractions at home, however, it takes a little bit of time to get the correct software onto the computers that i use

animatic

This animatic i feel needs to be tweaked to fit the main character's cute hints that i have put into the game cover. However, this animatic shows the general idea of the game's mechanics and i would still like to use the style of showing game footage for the trailer type that i want to go for in my tv trailer.

Drafts

This is another draft for the magazine advert. Within the industry magazine adverts usually don't come as a stand alone advert, normally they have more than one advert to form some sort of campaign. This is the idea that i want to follow and this second idea helps. The idea is meant to show a vague map of places within the game
This advert has similar problems to the first one, the metal plate looks rather childish and basic, however the animation has a similar style and so i will try to work the metal plate up to the animation's style.

The feeling i want to achieve with this advert would be to show an insight into the locations that appear in the game, by giving insight into the game to the viewer will cause a interest to learn more about the game. However, i have decided to keep the locations shown in the advert vague because this will not take away from the interest of finding these locations as they progress in the game.

This advert needs more info about the game and about the game;
where to buy it
its website
and possibly its rating

I have also done a few semi final ideas for my two tv adverts, these tv adverts link together in such a fashion that the second's enigmas are answered by the first.

These two adverts link together effectively though i will have to focus group a few things to refine the designs even further. The current ideas shown within the adverts seem to work to the desired effect. The live action advert has a really nice appeal and captures the subtle humor i was aiming for within my project
